You’re never too old for a playday!

Playdays are monthly rotating themed applied improvisation playshops run by international applied theatre practitioner and improvisation workshop facilitator Mary C. Parker.

Using the foundational components of applied improvisation (“Yes, And,” listening, presence, choice, and collaboration) Mary will address oppression and bias through applied improv exercises that will teach you how to have more mindful and playful interactions that increase awareness to be better humans.

These playshops are experiential: we will do some improv exercises, dialogue on the themes, and collaborate on strategies to disrupt after the playday is over.

WHO IS THIS FOR?

  • All genders. Ages 18 and up. No improv experience necessary.

  • Great for educators, creatives, applied theatre practitioners, improvisers, students.

  • Playshop is capped at 15 participants.

WHAT IS A PLAYSHOP?

Playshops are workshops rooted in the concept of play to foster an interactive experience for you to build confidence, collaboration, and communication skills.

DO I NEED TO BE A PERFORMER?

No! Applied improvisation is about taking improv concepts and applying them offstage to everyday interactions so no performance experience is necessary to play!

WHAT CAN I EXPECT?

  • Intentional space to foster vulnerable sharing and space to explore, dialogue, and challenge you.

  • The playshop is informed by a set of assumptions and code of conduct found here.

  • Pre and post-communication with associated readings about the theme.

  • At least one 10 minute break during each playday.


HOW CAN I JOIN?

We meet monthly on the fourth Saturday of every month via ZOOM for 2.5 hours from 11:30 am - 2:00 pm EST. Find what time this is where you are here. Register to play here.

NOTE: I include barrier-free participation (scholarships) for Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) in the form of two (2) slots for two participants per event. These are given on a first-come, first-served basis. If you’d like one of these slots you can select this option during registration. If you’d like to support a gift economy for participants you can more about donating to support my work here.

WHAT IF I MISS THE PLAYSHOP? ARE THERE REFUNDS?

Generally, these monthly playshops are paid upfront, with no refunds.
In case of emergencies and/or illness and you miss the playshop, I can grant you a one-time option to join us at the next scheduled playshop.
